Remote Learning at Feckenham CE Primary School

In the event of a whole school closure, the school will set work on the remote learning platform Seesaw for pupils. All pupils have their own login details for the online learning platform, SeeSaw, which will be given out each September or when a child starts school.

SeeSaw can be accessed on a computer, laptop, tablet and smart phone.

Pupils who are ill and therefore not well enough to be in school will not be allocated home learning tasks nor if they are absent from school due to a planned family holiday.

Provision:

If we implement remote learning, then tasks will be set and monitored by class teachers using SeeSaw. Feedback will be timely and, in most cases, delivered during the school day. Work posted in the evening may not be accessed by the class teacher until the next morning. Paper copies will be available free upon request please phone or email the school office.

Teachers will upload work the night before or by 9am. Work will not be required to be printed but children may need paper to write or record answers on. Completed work can be uploaded to Seesaw using photos or file upload and teachers will be able to provide feedback during normal school hours.

Overall provision will be monitored by the Headteacher.

As well as the core subjects of Maths, English and Science, foundation subjects will also be set along with R.E. Tasks may be a combination of practical activities and worksheet-based activities.

Staff will use a combination of government endorsed online learning platforms; The Oak Academy, White Rose Maths, Little Wandle along with their own bespoke provision for their pupils.

Staff will set as a minimum of three hours of learning activities per day. The time taken to complete tasks may vary from child-to-child dependent on a range of factors e.g. some children take longer to complete tasks, and some children may rush to complete an activity.

Face to face interaction with the class teacher will be offered if we are closed for a prolonged period of time, and these will be through Microsoft Teams.

Live lessons, although for some pupils may be preferred, they have disadvantages, especially around equality of provision for those households where a set time might be difficult to manage and also for those pupils who find live sessions stressful and/or difficult to concentrate. Therefore, live teaching sessions will be minimal and for some year groups inappropriate to the age of the children i.e. Reception class.

Reading Books:

Class teachers will assign age-appropriate reading books either online or by paper copies which can be organised by calling or emailing the school office. Daily reading will be expected of all children for at least 10 minutes per day in a remote learning situation.

More specialist provision:

For pupils on the SEND register and those identified on the monitoring register, class teachers and/or class teaching assistants will provide more face-to-face sessions such as 1:1 reading and speech and language interventions via Microsoft Teams. These sessions will be in school time with the parent/carer’s permission and only accessed through staff school email addresses with the permission from the Headteacher.

Parent/Carer views:

Class teachers will telephone parents and carers at least twice per half term to get feedback on how remote learning is working and to discuss other requirements/arrangements that may work best for their situation at home.

Parents and carers are able to feedback directly via Seesaw and reminded to get into contact with the school via direct email to the class teachers or the school office. Lines of communication are always open.

If there is little or no engagement with learning during a closure, parents will be contacted via phone or email to see how we can best remotely support your child. We are very aware of the difficulties a working family can face with home learning so we will work with you to help keep your child moving forward in their education.

Teacher workload:

Teachers and Teaching Assistants where possible will be working on the school site. There will be regular virtual provision for those on the SEND register and monitoring programmes.

In the exceptional circumstance of remote learning, we are mindful of the extra workload teachers and teaching assistants are being asked to complete.

Our remote provision is under constant review and will be updated when appropriate.
